چکیده

Preferences are usually considered as binary relations applied on a set of objects, let’s say A. Preference modelling is concerned by two basic problems (see [31]). The first can be summarised as follows. Consider a decision maker replying to a set of preference queries concerning a the elements of the set A: “do you prefer a to b?”, “do you prefer b to c?” etc.. Given such replies the problem is to check whether exists (and under which conditions) one or more real valued functions which, when applied to A, will return (faithfully) the preference statements of the decision maker. As an example consider a decision maker claiming that, given three candidates a, b and c, he is indifferent between a and b as well as between b and c, although he clearly prefers a to c. There are several different numerical representations which could account for such preferences. For instance we could associate to a the interval [5, 10], to b the interval [3, 6] and to c the interval [1, 4]. Under the rule that x is preferred to y iff the interval associated to x is completely to the right (in the sense of the reals) of the one associated to y and indifferent otherwise, the above numerical representation faithfully represents the decision makers preference statements. The second problem goes the opposite way. We have a numerical representation for all elements of the set A and we would like to construct preference relations for a given decision maker. As an example consider three objects a, b and c whose cost is 10, 12 and 20 respectively. For a certain decision

Perceptual Learning Style Preferences and Computer-Assisted Writing Achievement within the Activity Theory Framework

Learning styles are considered among the significant factors that aid instructors in deciding how well their students learn a second or foreign language (Oxford, 2003). Although this issue has been accepted broadly in educational psychology, further research is required to examine the relationship between learning styles and language learning skills. Thus, the present study was carried out to in...

Representing preferences using intervals

In this paper we present a general framework for the comparison of intervals when preference relations have to established. The use of intervals in order to take into account imprecision and/or uncertainty in handling preferences is well known in the literature, but a general theory on how such models behave is lacking. In the paper we generalise the concept of interval (allowing the presence o...

Preference Representation with 3-Points Intervals

In this article we are interested in the representation of qualitative preferences with the help of 3-points intervals (a vector of three increasingly ordered points). Preferences are crucial when an agent has to autonomously make a choice over several possible actions. We provide first of all an axiomatization in order to characterize our representation and then we construct a general framewor...

Investigating the Role of real Money Balances in Households' Preferences function in the Framework of the Assets Pricing Models (M-CCAPM): Case study of Iran

In this paper, we try to develop and modify the basic model of the consumption-based capital asset pricing model by adding the growth in real money balances rate as a risk factor in the household's utility function as (M-CCAPM). For this purpose, two forms of utility function with constant relative risk aversion (CRRA) preferences and recursive preferences have been used such that M1 and M2 are...

Determination of the Percentage of Hand-to-mouth Consumers among Iranian Households: CCAPM Framework and Euler's Equations

In this paper, we want to determine what percentage of Iranian households doesn’t act according to the Permanent Income Hypothesis (PIH), the so called hand-to-mouth consumers are, that consume 100% of their current income. For this mean, we have used three models. In the first model, we applied Constant Relative Risk Aversion (CRRA) preferences. In the second, preferences includes the habits o...

Public Participation: More than a Method?; Comment on “Harnessing the Potential to Quantify Public Preferences for Healthcare Priorities through Citizens’ Juries”

While it is important to support the development of methods for public participation, we argue that this should not be at the expense of a broader consideration of the role of public participation. We suggest that a rights based approach provides a framework for developing more meaningful approaches that move beyond public participation as synonymous with consultation to value the contribution ...
